The range reminds us of all things heavenly using a palatte of cloudy white and silvers, washed out blues and sunset tangerines and gold. Watercolour style prints, sandwashed silks, metallic cottons and soft ruffles also feature. Ramsay’s typical crafty or vintage aesthetic is still present in the utilisation of salvaged Levi’s and patchwork quilts (plus a quilt design by Arabella’s mother has become a print). We find her lace maxi dress, gingham prints and super-faded denim particularly charming. Naturally, the obvious colour palate for an Americana style collection would be red white and blue (with the injection of a little sunshine with yellow). The most versatile piece is her silky Flutter Frill dress which could work day or night.

This Side of the Blue is a little Woodstock hippie rock, a little nouveau western and a whole lot of summery goodness.

Remember that Sony Bravia television ad where they bounced thousands of brightly coloured balls down the hill of San Francisco? Well Acne has recently presented a more lo-fi, whimsical take on this theme with this video for their Men’s Spring Summer 2010 underwear campaign.

Here Karen Millen’s creative director Gemma Metheringham takes a look at the UK label’s Autumn Winter 2010 collection. She describes it as minimal, relaxed and her favourite collection so far.

While other designers who may choose the fated actress would stick to the boho-chic aesthetic she became renowned for Taranto has taken a more abstract view. Instead this collection is one of dichotomies, looking at the duality of Getty, her light public persona and the darkness that would be her downfall.

For Taranto and her design partner Lea Oldjohn, this translates to black vs. white and minimal, hard lines vs. dramatically soft, tear-drop, ruffles. Wavy black and white prints add visual relief. Overall, this collection is enveloped by a tumultuous mood of contrasting elements.

Slim pants balance out boxier tops. Choose from motorcycle styles, skinny suit pants or acid scoured jeans. Galan pays due attention to detail with features like irregular seams, zips and trimmed edges. Glossy finishes and a feature colour palette of juicy tomato red and shocking candy pink are tempered by a pewter backdrop. In terms of styling notes, the snood – a piece usually worn as a hood – add interest in place of a scarf.

Highlights from the collection are the graphic ‘Tomato Contrast Panel Knit’ sweater, the ‘Grey Contrast Trim Military Coat’ and a gorgeous ‘Washed Leather Jacket’ that begs to be touched. Both of the former pieces have strong lines as their distinguishing feature.
