As we are experiencing what feels like an unseasonably-long summer, there is no reason to pack away the frocks and flat sandals just yet. Late afternoons may be stormy but it’s often still sweltering outside perched on our familiar steps. Luckily there are a few mid-season sales happening too so we can enjoy our Spring/Summer purchases just a little longer. Check out Mimco, Gorman, Leona Edmiston and Arabella Ramsay for bountiful bargains.

How amazing do these two lovelies below look? There’s nothing like a statement dress to make the task of accessorising simple. We particularly like the relaxed, untraditional shapes. Hussy’s ‘Enchanted Prowess’ and ‘Midnight Hour’ dresses have similar loose silhouette. They make it look almost too easy.

We almost wonder if these six gents called each other to co-ordinate outfits for the day? It appears Melbourne’s men are taking note of trends yet we can’t help worry that the look might become something of a uniform. What is the outfit du jour of the male urbanite? It appears that it is a combination of classic white or pale tee, any variation of the distressed denim pant (cuffed if long) and worn-in dress shoes for the win. Bonus points for the unconventional red socks. Come on boys, feel free to spread your sartorial wings and give us the next great look to spy on.

Who says Melburnians are colour-phobes? These lovelies ban the black in bold blue and sunny yellow. For a similar look as at left try the cut out dress from Akira’s Printemps Ete 2010 collection. Or, with a one-piece fix for the very brave, Willow has a jumpsuit from her next Eclipse collection in an even brighter hue.

In the last few weeks the Melbourne weather has kept us guessing, with torrential rain and storms one minute and the heat returning the next. Autumn, with its changing moods, is the perfect time to focus on layering pieces to create a versatile outfit that can take you from cool breezes to warm glimpses of sun, day to night. Below are a couple of examples of layering with sheer tops that we love, or you can take inspiration from Willow’s Eclipse collection with beautiful mesh fabric in blacks and pinks. LMFF Day Five: Lady Melbourne and the fashion savvy

Lady Melbourne in all of her chic, vintage glory stopped to have a quick chat to us about the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, upcoming trends and what the future has in store for her.

We also chatted to a few frocked up attendees of Friday night’s runway show about the pieces they used to create their outfits.

Our friends at Acne have been pleased to spy some very well known faces (and bodies) sporting pieces from their own collections lately.

At the recent London Fashion Week, model and “best dressed” list regular Alexa Chung sported Acne’s ‘Soldier’ denim shirt. Sitting front row at the House of Holland show with Pixie Geldof, Chung kept to her signature cool style by wearing the piece that is actually part of Acne’s men’s line.

And this next lovely needs no introduction. Songstress Kylie Minogue ducks out from her London residence and is prepared for just about anything the day may throw at her in the label’s amazing ‘Armour’ jeans.

Whether we like it or not, Autumn is fast approaching along with its cool relief, falling leaves and overcast skies. It may be time to consider how your wardrobe will stand up to the less than sunny elements. This Autumn Winter season Parisian chic is a strong trend. The black and white striped cardigan below encapsulates the look perfectly. If you want to add some colour here stick to cherry red and navy blues for a Gallic look. On the other hand masculinity will also be in. The young can get away with the nonchalantly dishevelled look as per our find below without looking like a grandpa. However, a more classic clean-cut boyfriend blazer will work for everyone else.

Both of our subjects below team soft tan leather bags with block, bright blues in unique ways. The pops of white in both their outfits keep things fresh and cool for summer. Keen eyed Melbourne fashion-philes may recognise the lady on the left as Tania, the fashion editor of Fashionising notoriety. Also, well done on the cute (and surely comfy) shoes ladies!

A leather jacket is staple in many a fashionable wardrobe. From cropped to trench to biker, the leather jacket is a highly versatile and can give an edge to the frilliest of frocks. Add in other touches of leather if you really want to toughen up your look, perhaps in a bag, watch or flats or even a cuff. Just make sure you don’t go overboard and end up looking like the biker from the Village People.
