The Autumn Winter 2010 collection from Karen Millen takes 1980′s power dressing to its most chic point. Forget the stereotypical big hair and bigger shoulder pads, this look is instead made bold due to figure-emphasizing cuts, leather, suede and careful addition of embellishments. The overall feel is like one of Robert Palmer’s iconic models coming of age to take over centre stage. We just need to add slicked back hair and slash of red to our pouts.
A mysteriously murky colour palette of inky black, chocolate and grey tweed is broken up by pockets of hot pink and regal plum. Detailing – in the form of metal eyelets, sequins (think heavy metal, not chintzy), studs and scattered gems – is restricted to just a few pieces.
Strong shapes are the key. Pant hems are cropped at the ankle, the season’s booties just above that and the other winter 2010 boot style is over the knee while waists are nipped in. On our wish list already are the purple suede ankle boots, cropped tuxedo pants and trio of jackets; in grey tweed with the wide lapel, the soft black biker and the metallic, ruffle-fronted versions.
Karen Millen‘s next Autumn Winter collection will be available in Australia from January 2010.
