Swensk simply means “Swedish” in Swedish but to Melburnians the word can also mean slow fashion (the most important trend in fashion’s recent history), interesting people and access to a smorgasbord of Scandanavian style.
A slice of the Swensk boutique, on Little Collins street, opens here today, Thursday 17th December, as we welcome a satellite Swensk store for a very limited time only – so get in quick! The satellite store stocks Swedish labels for women that encompass a slow fashion (ie. quality over quantity classics) philosophy. Expect to find labels like Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Filippa K and Whyred.
The satellite store has been fitted out with furniture from local designers Native who had their debut fairly recently at the State of Design festival. Native’s merging of the modern with classic, natural elements pairs well with Swensk‘s aesthetic.
Update: Swensk’s satellite has now left the building. It was certainly fun while it lasted!
The above image is from Swensk’s ‘Interesting People Never Go Out of Fashion’ project. The first part is a collaboration with Fashion Hayley and photographer Viktor Nilsson inspired by the work of Swedish writer/director/producer Ingmar Bergman
