The title of the Spring Summer 09/10 collection. “Bittersweet Nightshade” from Zimmermann says it all. Inspired by the seductive but dangerous flower; the collection is full of statement, darkly floral pieces as well as some familiar Zimmermann details like laced up cut-outs and one-piece swimsuits. While showing at the recent Australian Fashion Week, Nicky Zimmermann said the collection was about playing with “hardness” of the Nightshade plant’s toxicity versus the “softness” of its blooms. The first lot from the collection has just arrived in-store.  Our pick would be the ‘Nightshade Laser Chain Swing Top’ at left. The bold collection, while not suited to wallflowers, is made easy to wear by the fact that the pieces can just be thrown on with no adornment and still look like a finished outfit.
